The South African Free State Fujian Overseas Chinese Association (SAFOCH) along with the Free State South African Police Service (SAPS) celebrated their 67 minutes International Mandela Day by donating food parcels and blankets to the elderly of the Thaba Nchu region.
The event was chaired by the Provincial Head of Detectives Brigadier Posholi and had several speakers both from the Chinese community and the police. Among the speakers were the SAFOCH Chairperson Jimmy Shi and the Counsellor General of Johannesburg of PRC Mai Xinquan. They both thanked the community for supporting them and their business pledging to assist the community of Thaba Nchu and Free State as a whole with any of their needs. All members of the SADOCH participated in the package (food parcels and blanket) which in total amounted to R200 000. The organisation promised that they would expand to other regions in the coming year.
Major general Tholi Afonso also thanked the Chinese Community for their donations and mentioned how close knit they are with the SAPS and the community.
“They are very generous people and they bring business to the community. Yes it is International Mandela Day but they donate all year round” said major general Afonso.
The event was also blessed to have the SAPS Free State choir, Community Police Forum Provincial Representative Mr Moshodi, Brigadier Ramokojo and several police officers.
