Chinese soccer team participates in Social Cohesion Games

Johannesburg -Saturday 25 February 2017  was the inauguration of the Social Cohesion Games.

Gauteng Premier David Makhura on Saturday launched a veterans  soccer tournament, calling on the public to use it to stand against recent xenophobic attacks.

“Football is a common denominator in Gauteng, on the continent and the world over,” he said in a statement.

“By combining different nationalities in one provincial tournament, we can, in a small but significant manner, assist in unifying our province.”

The tournament – which has been named the Social Cohesion Games – will involve 768 players from different African countries including a Chinese soccer team.

The Chinese team played attractive soccer throughout Saturdays round robin stage. They had the crowds cheering continuously as the kept fighting back by scoring well worked goals in their 4-3 loss to West 11 from Alexandra.  The team lost their second match and got eliminated from the tournament.
Before the rain forced play to stop, there were beautiful scenes of children from Alexandra playing soccer with some of the Chinese players. This is exactly what the Social Cohesion Games are all about.
The finals will be held on the 5th March.
