isiZulu language course is launched at the Beijing Foreign Studies University

On 5 March 2017 Ambassador Dolana Msimang participated in the launch ceremony of the isiZulu language course at the Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU). The BFSU is a leading Chinese university that specialises in foreign language studies and has since 2016 expressed interest in establishing cooperation partnerships with South African like-minded universities in the area of isiZulu language studies.

At the launch ceremony, Vice President JIA Wenjian of the BFSU highlighted that in order to strengthen the ties between China and South Africa with particular focus on people-to-people exchanges, the BFSU will now commence with isiZulu as an elective course. The university aims to work towards elevating isiZulu to a full degree level in the near future.

Ambassador Msimang said that the initiative is evidence of the very close ties that exist between the peoples of the two countries and the desire to improve mutual understanding. The closeness in the relations between South Africa and China as well as Africa and China leaves all sides richly empowered.

Ambassador Msimang expressed the hope that going forward, in an effort to popularise isiZulu and other indigenous South African languages, the BFSU and its South African partners will embark on hosting teacher-learner exchanges,  exhibitions, performances and other events that can help to promote the isiZulu  language and culture.
