The ninth China – Africa Youth Exchange program kicked off in Kenya on the 10th August 2016. This year’s event saw a turning tide in the attendance. Approximately 50 college and university students attended with their lectures from China and Kenya, The event was held in Nairobi.
One of the key speaker’s Li Hangyu deputy director of Asian and African Affairs officer of the Confucius institute headquarters said she hoped youth representatives from both countries can learn from each other, achieve progress hand in hand, grow to be envoys of Sino-African culture exchanges and bridges between China and Africa.
The youth that attended the event also had something to say about the event a student was quoted sharing her gratitude “ Learning Chinese makes us understand Chinese culture better, introduces us more Chinese friends and bring us more job opportunities” said the university from institute of Africa at the opening ceremony of the “Chinese Bridge’’ China youth program.
Organized by Beijing Language and Culture University and the Confucius institute, the youth exchange program was sponsored by the Confucius Institute Headquarters and the Chinese Follow-up Committee of Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. In the following days, participants of the program were touring the Kenyan Ministry of Education, visiting Kenyan traditional craft workshops, and attending wildlife conservation practices among other activities.
