Chinese Embassy and Confucius classroom donate language teaching equipment

Pretoria- 06 March 2017 Willowridge High School hosted the handing over ceremony for the Language Teaching Equipment which was donated by the Chinese government.  The Minister of Basic Education, Ms Angie Motshekga and Chinese ambassador to South Africa Ambassador Tian Xuejun were in attendance to oversee the ceremony.

Ambassador Tian Xuejun encouraged the learners to maximize the opportunities which are presented to them through the various Chinese programs. He also highlighted how important it is to be able to integrate oneself globally, so by learning Mandarin or Chinese culture learners will be able to market themselves better later on in life. He mentioned that by bringing technology like computers to previously disadvantaged areas the Chinese and South African government are fulfilling the computer dream of several students.

Ambassador Tian emphasized  the importance of continuing with educational programs for students from both nations. Finally he thanked all the students and educators who participated in the past programs as well as encouraging the new learners to embrace the new opportunity.


Minister of Basic Education, Ms Angie Motshekga thanked Ambassador Tian Xuejun for spearheading the bilateral educational programs for the last four years. Ms Angie Motshekga said that the smart interactive boards will assist with integrating technology into classrooms and the textbooks will help teachers teach Chinese subjects. “We should continue to work together so that we can increase our educational sharing capabilities” said the minister.

The Willowridge High School choir performed a beautiful Chinese folk song.
