Chinese community will be celebrating the Chinese New Year in old Chinatown in Johannesburg on Saturday January 30, 2016.
This year the Chinese New Year’s main organisers are the Chinese Association of Gauteng in partnership with the Johannesburg’s First Chinatown Association.
According to the Chinese calendar, the Chinese New Year will fall on February 8, 2016 and last until January 27, 2017. According to the Chinese Horoscope; the year 2016 is the year of the Red Monkey.
Chinese New Year is widely celebrated across the world, with big celebrations taking place out of Asia.
Johannesburg will be filled with plenty of entertainment and stalls from 10:00 and have massive fireworks display from 18:00 till 21:00 . The traditional Lion and Dragon routine will be performed. Other performances include dancing, singing, drumming and Thai Chi. Various types of food will be available for all kinds of food lovers.
The celebration will be held at Commissioner Street, Ferreirastown Johannesbrg. Commissioner Street will be cordoned off between Mirriam Makeba and Alexander Street.
