The chairperson of the African Union, Nkosazana Clarice Dlamini-Zuma, is continuing a six-day visit to Beijing at the invitation of the Chinese foreign minister. Zuma took a high-speed train from Beijing to Tianjin on Saturday and visited the Tianjin high-speed train station accompanied by Chinese Ambassador Kuang Weilin.
“It’s my first time. And it feels great. You can save time, but it feels very comfortable. You don’t feel you’re on a high-speed train,” Zuma said.
Zuma says the African Union welcomes cooperation with China in building high-speed railways in Africa.
“China is helping a lot and cooperating with our countries in building highways. That’s why we now want to cooperate with Beijing in high-speed trains because Africa is a huge continent. It needs fast transportation and it has a huge number of people and the need to move a big number of people across the continent. But also Africa is a very beautiful continent. It’ll be very good for tourists to come and use the high-speed to see more than one country,” Zuma said.
Zuma also pointed out that there are lots of opportunities for China-Africa cooperation.
“There are opportunities to cooperate in agriculture. Because food is going to be in high demand as the population of the world grows and the population of Africa grows. There are also huge opportunities in infrastructure; there’s cooperation in tourism also in exchanges of culture because both China and Africa have got great cultural heritage,” Zuma said.
